Wendy Gold Studios Debuts Handmade Globe Collection Making Artist the World’s Only Woman Globemaker

California artist Wendy Gold’s unique globe-making process modernizes one of the oldest crafts in human history with a fully customizable piece of art that lets buyers create a world entirely their own

SAN ANSELMO, Calif., [Sept. 22, 2026] – Wendy Gold Studios, the woman-owned California art studio known for its Push Pin Globes and Maps, today announces the launch of its Handmade Globe Collection: more than 40 original globe designs created entirely from scratch using a proprietary process artist Wendy Gold spent eight years developing.

With the launch, Gold becomes the only woman globemaker in the world.

Rather than learning the centuries-old techniques used by the handful of remaining globemakers worldwide, Gold invented an entirely new method, even working with an engineer to create machinery that’s purpose-built for globemaking and doesn’t exist anywhere else. The precision required is extraordinary: just a single millimeter off compounds across the entire sphere. The process is so exact that the two hemispheres join without the equator tape most globemakers rely on to hide the seam.

Each Handmade Globe is a collectible piece of art with original designs made from vintage maps, illustrations, and ephemera. The collection spans themes from botanicals and travel to nature, astrology, pets, food, music, and much more. Every globe is 12 inches, sits on a handmade wood base available in four finishes, and is designed, crafted, and hand-finished in San Anselmo, California. 

The collection retails at $425. Buyers can customize existing designs and can also commission entirely one-of-a-kind designs, making it one of the most personal and unique gifts on the market. 

“There are only a few people in the world who are still making globes by hand. I wanted to be one of them, but wanted to do it my own way,” said Wendy Gold. “A globe is the ultimate blank canvas. It’s an entire world and I get to create whatever someone’s heart desires on it. I love the idea that I can make someone's world a little more beautiful in whatever way is unique to them.”

Wendy Gold Studios is deeply rooted in its Marin County community and supports a number of local causes. Alongside the collection launch, the studio is partnering with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and Marin Humane on a special edition globes with proceeds supporting the nonprofit organizations.
