How do I go about commissioning a piece?
Please email us with exactly what you envision, and we will get back to you with a price quote. If you would like to use an existing design as a base, and then build customization on to it, the prices will be determined based on time of additional customization. You can also, come pick out a globe for customizing at our studio/storefront in San Anselmo, CA.
Why don’t you use maps with current geography?
We love the look of vintage maps. We’ve searched long and hard to find “new” maps with the same aesthetic appeal, and maps just are no longer made the way they used to be. We are willing to live with the quirks and some changed names in exchange for the vintage beauty.
How old are the maps you use?
Most maps are from the early 1900’s, and globes are less than 100 years old. Though some of the names of geographical places have changed over the years, the landmasses remain the same.
Can I get my map or canvas in a different size?
Yes, anything can be ordered in any size. The largest size the pin maps go is 24"x30" because of frame size limitation. Other than that, the sky's the limit.
What is included in the pin map customization?
Customization includes names and dates. Words can also be swapped out with other words, anything beyond that will be charged accordingly.
How do I hang my pin map?
Take the sawtooth picture hanger from the pin box. Gently hammer it into the wood at the halfway point on the top of frame. Hang centered on a nail (not included).
How do I get the pins in the pin globe?
The globes are cardboard. If you are having trouble getting map pins into the globe, try using a thumb tack to make the hole first, and then put the map pin into hole. Sometimes it is easier to make a hole with something easier to grip.
Why does it take 6-8 weeks to get my globe?
Each globe has to be sourced, then hand-made and finished. Quality work and artistry take time, and we take the time to make each globe perfect for you.
Can I see the specific globe that my design will be made on?
Yes, feel free to email us after you place your order asking to see which globes we have inventory on. We'll send photos of globes that will work for the theme you chose, and you can then handpick which globe you'll get.
Can I request a certain base style or color for my globe?
Yes, we do our best to accommodate any and all requests.
Can I see a proof of a customized globe or map so I can approve it before it is finished?
Absolutely. When placing your order, please request a proof and a photo will be sent to you via email for your approval before shipping.
How should I clean my globe?
Globes can be cleaned with a dry microfiber cloth.
Can people sign your globes to use as wedding guest book?
Yes, black sharpies are recommended for ivory or blue globes, and metallic sharpies (silver or gold) are recommended for black globes.
I want to send as present, do you gift wrap?
We don't gift wrap, but we can enclose a card, and we won't include payment information with order upon request. You'll have a chance to add a gift message or special instructions at checkout.
Can I send you my globe to use for my order? Does that change pricing?
Yes, if you have a globe that you would like us to use, please send a photo along with the design you're interested in and we will get back to you with a price quote.
Where do you get the globes and maps you use?
We collect our vintage globes and maps from flea markets, estate sales and from online sites.
Can I sell you my globe?
Yes, we're always looking for new canvases. Please send a photo along with a price that includes the shipping cost, and we will let you know if we're interested in purchasing.
